Villiger Do Brasil Claro – Cigar Review

Villiger Do Brasil Claro

This is a cigar review of the new Villiger Do Brasil Claro by Villiger Cigars. The size chosen for this review is the Robusto. This cigar is composed of strictly Brazilian tobaccos and has a Brazilian Connecticut Shade wrapper. This is a mild smoking stick that retails around $9.00.

Villiger Chairman of the Board, Heinrich Villiger said:” My family saw the value in Brazilian tobacco when they began Villiger Cigars as very small operation in 1888. Brazilian tobacco is unique, as its structure is very robust, which leads to strong aromas and flavours. Its distinct qualities can only be created in Bahia, Brazil. We look forward to sharing the Villiger do Brasil brand with the United States marketplace.”

Construction/Appearance:

This Villiger Do Brasil Claro is a nice light walnut color with a few subtle veins and visible yet tight seams.

Pre-Light:

Aromas of cedar and coffee transmit off the wrapper during the pre-light ritual. We utilized the straight cut for this review, which produced a cedar note on the cold draw.

After Toast:

First third – Cedar, cream and wood all come forward to start this smoke off followed by a peppery char finish. This cigar is mild on the palate with a slightly wavy burn and ash holds through the third.

Second Third – Cedar, cream and wood continue with the subtle pepper on the finish all carry over into this third. The one addition is a coffee note intermingled in. The body is light, burn slightly wavy and ash falls at the beginning of the third.

Final Third – The final third starts with much of the same cedar, cream and wood notes with the coffee becoming lighter as the third progresses. That light pepper still lingering on the finish. The body remains light and burn remains slightly wavy.

Overall Experience:

This Villiger Do Brasil is a nice easy smoke with a great array of mellow flavors in the profile that is perfect for the beginner and also has the ability to suffice an aficionado who is in the mood for something light. The cedar and cream notes are always good, then blend in the wood with a subtle peppery kick and you have yourself a fine experience.

Suggested Pairing:

  • Bourbon – Knob Creek
  • Scotch – Johnnie Walker Black
  • Whiskey – Gentleman Jack
