Victor Calvo 50
This is a cigar review of a Victor Calvo 50 by Victor Calvo Cigars. The size chosen for this review is the toro. The composition of this cigar consists of an Ecuadorian Sun Grown Sumatra followed by Nicaraguan fillers. This is a medium to full bodied smoke that retails for $8.50.
This Victor Calvo 50 has a wrapper that is milk chocolate in color with some smaller veins throughout the smoke and visible yet tight seams.
Aromas of chocolate, spice and nuts all radiate from the wrapper and foot of this cigar. We chose the straight cut for this experience. The cold draw had a nice Hershey chocolate syrup and raisin like note.
First third – Deep chocolate, coffee, cedar and a leather like finish really start this cigar off with a bang. Lots happening immediately out of the gate. Into the middle of the third the chocolate holds along with an orange peel like note that is refreshing along with some spice and earthy leather on the finish. The body is medium plus, burn is sharp and ash holds through the third.
Second Third – The cedar, leather and spice all perk up in this third with the chocolate moving to barely there. The body is medium plus and ash falls at the halfway point.
Final Third – Cedar with coffee followed by spice and leather carry this cigar home straight through to the finish. The body remains medium plus and burn remains sharp.
Scotch – Glenfiddich 15
Wine – Groth Oakville
This Victor Calvo 50 is a phenomenal cigar with a great deal of complex flavors within the profile to keep you wondering what comes next. With the chocolate, cedar, coffee, nuts, spice, leather this thing is the gift that just keeps on giving. This has been my first experience with this brand and I will say I am a believer and will be finding others to try and review in the near future.
