Vegas Cubanas by Don Pepin Garcia – Cigar Review

Vegas Cubanas by Don Pepin Garcia

This is a Vegas Cubanas by Don Pepin Garcia of My Father Cigars. The size chosen is the Invictos (Robusto). This cigar is composed of a Corojo wrapper and Nicaraguan tobaccos. This is a medium bodied smoke experience that retails around $6.70.

Construction/Appearance:

This Vegas Cubanas by Don Pepin Garcia is a nice milk chocolate brown in color with reddish highlights throughout the body of the smoke. There are some larger veins and seams are invisible. I would also note it is double banded with a nice lime green ribbon on the foot of the cigar.

Pre-Light:

The wrapper of this Vegas Cubanas radiates aromas of cedar, spice and raisin. We cut this with the straight cut. The cold draw follows suit with the aromas with notes of cedar and raisin.

After Toast:

First Third – Notes of wood, cedar tang, Cocoa, spice and a leathery finish all glamor the palate to start this smoke off with a great complexity level. The body is medium plus, burn is wavy and ash holds through the third.

Second Third – The wood and spice combine with the cocoa finished with a medium bodied leather note all play equal roles in this third. The burn turns sharp and ash falls at the 2 inch mark just before the middle.

Final Third – Cocoa, spice and leather dominate the finish here through and through. The body remains medium and burn remains sharp.

Suggested Pairing:

Bourbon – Basil Hayden

Scotch – Johnnie Walker Black

Overall Experience:

This is a nice medium bodied smoke that shows all of its cards right out of the gate. Lots of complexity in the first third that continues to refine itself the farther it gets into the smoke experience. This is a perfect cigar for someone venturing to move away from the mild spectrum and into something slightly more powerful. I would definitely have this cigar again.
