SYN Original Maduro – Cigar Review

SYN Original Maduro

This is a cigar review of the SYN Original Maduro by SYN cigars. The vitola used for this review is the Salomon (7×54).  This cigar is made of a 5 year aged Corojo Maduro wrapper grown in Ecuador that has a full bodied strength. This is followed by a 5 year aged Corojo from the Dominican Republic with a medium-full bodied strength. The fillers consist of 2 year aged Corojo from the Dominican Republic.

“Tabacalera SYN debuts 2 luxurious cigars in the Salomon and Petite Robusto sizes, both available in Habano and Maduro wrappers. Exuberant with the impressionable SYN ring, each cigar is carefully swathed by hand in a silky sheath to enhance its air of opulence. But most importantly through our strict inspection process there are absolutely no compromises when it comes to the construction, density, draw, burn and aromatic complexity of the cigar. Each SYN cigar is indeed a precious work of art on its own.”

Construction/Appearance:

Thus Syn Original Maduro has a beautiful milk chocolate brown wrapper with a nice matted finish. There are a handful of veins and tight seams visible. The ends are tapered and this cigar feels solid in your hand.

Pre-Light:

Aroma – Smoked Wood, Chocolate and Spice

Type of Cut – Straight

Cold Draw – Hay, Chocolate and Spice

After Toast:

First third – The chocolate and cedar wood like nuances all come forth immediately after lighting up. Some light spices come into play on the finish once this cigar heats up followed by a light black pepper finish. The burn is sharp and body starts off a solid medium but builds up towards the end of the third. The ash falls at about the 2 inch mark.

Second Third – The cedar and spice really take hold here moving the chocolate notes to the finish with that subtle black pepper note. The notes stay the same through the third but pick up in intensity. The body moves to medium plus and burn stays sharp.

Final Third – The chocolate notes and spice intermingle with the wood beautifully in this final third. The black pepper begins to kick up here on the finish. The body moves to the fuller side and burn remains sharp.

Suggested Pairing:

  • Bourbon – Wolcott Kentucky Straight Bourbon
  • Scotch – Balvenie 14yr Caribbean Cask
  • Rum – Flor de Cana 18 Yr

Overall Experience:

The SYN Original Maduro is a beautiful smoke all around with a very pronounced and consistent flavor profile. The 4 flavors in the profile swirl around and intermingle differently in each third, which adds to the enjoyment of the experience. This cigar is like an orchestral crescendo as it builds up over time in terms of strength to a big finish. Overall we enjoyed this cigar and recommend you give it a try.

About SYN Cigars – (Source – https://synbrands.com/)

SYN Cigars is a new quest in purveying the art of fine living by business entrepreneur Joseph Casimir.  His passion for cigars sparked during the first week at university in 1990. While flipping through the Robb Report magazine instead of a quantum physics book, he by chance saw a cigar advert with the tagline: “only 0.0000…1% of the world’s population gets to smoke this cigar, the rest are just poor bastards.” Determined not to be a “poor bastard”, he began learning about the enjoyment of cigars. Three decades later—after various business ventures and more adventures—Casimir, now an avid cigar smoker and collector, founded Tabacalera SYN in the Dominican Republic.  He is dedicated to produce the finest cigars accessible to the whole world, inspired by the beauty of nature and human ingenuity.
