Oscar Valladares Super Fly Maduro – Cigar Review

Oscar Valladares Super Fly Maduro

This is a cigar review of the Oscar Valladares Super Fly Maduro by Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co. The size chosen for this review is the Toro. This cigar is composed of a Mexican San Andreas wrapper, followed by a Honduran binder and blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican tobacco. This is a full bodied smoke that retails around $10.50.

Construction/Appearance:

This Oscar Valladares Super Fly Maduro is a beautiful dark chocolate in color with some visible veins and tight seams. The band is one to talk about here as it’s like a psychedelic purple and gold mixed in with some black. Really attractive marketing.

Pre-Light:

Aromas of light smoked wood and raisin resonate from the wrapper. We utilized a straight cut on this cigar that produced notes of cedar and mineral.

After Toast:

First third – Spice, chocolate and a smoky floral like finish start this cigar off strong.

Some light pepper enters the fold as this stick warms up. The spice and a smoked meat like note kick up about halfway through this third. Really nice change. Body is medium plus, burn wavy but it’s a little windy here and ash held through the third.

Second Third – Plenty of gumdrop like spices show themselves in this third which I always love in a cigar. That smoked note come in but it’s almost a Smokey cocoa like dessert feel. The finish brings forth a nice floral note. The ash falls at the beginning of the third. The body remains full and burn wavy.

Final Third – The gumdrop spices, smoky cocoa and florals all carry over, but the ending gets really buttery  toffee like which is amazing. Definitely a unexpected surprise. The body remains full and burn wavy.

Suggested Pairing:

  • Bourbon – 1792 Bourbon
  • Scotch – Dalmore 12yr

Overall Experience:

This Oscar Valladares Super Fly Maduro was a phenomenal smoke that hit a lot of unique spots on the palate. The gum drop spice, cocoa and florals are all great flavors to have in a cigar let alone all in one. Definitely one the best cigars I have reviewed in a while and would highly recommend you to find one to try!
