Cigar Review: The Oscar Maduro

Basic Information: The Oscar Maduro

Manufacturer – Oscar Valladares Tobacco and Co.

Size – Toro

Wrapper – Maduro

Tobacco Blend – Honduran and Nicaraguan

Pricing – $5.95

Body – Medium

This Oscar Maduro is dark chocolate in color damn near black. I will be honest the cigar is smooth as it gets with no veins and invisible seams. Beautiful craftsmanship.

Aroma – Light Barnyard

Type of Cut – Straight

Cold Draw – Cedar and Tea

After Toast:

First Third – Cocoa, cedar and herbs come out in this smoke to kick it off. A nice espresso like finish on this one. The burn is sharp and ash holds through the third.

Second Third – The ash falls off at the beginning of this third. The cocoa, cedar and herb stay in here but the espresso note gets a little spicy here. The burn remains sharp.

Final Third – This remains consistent with cocoa, cedar and spice with the espresso note holding down the finish. The burn remains sharp.

Suggested Pairing:

Wine – Angeline Pinot Noir

Scotch – Lagavulin 16yr.

Overall Experience:

This Oscar Maduro has a great consistent blend of cocoa, cedar and baking spice intermingled with espresso and a slight kick throughout the experience. Not a whole lot of change through the transitions of the thirds, but that doesn’t always have to happen to have a good cigar. I thought it was a good cigar smoking experience and would smoke again given the opportunity.
