Nat Sherman Metropolitan Host – Cigar Review

Metropolitan Host

This is a cigar review of a Nat Sherman Metropolitan Host by Nat Sherman of JC Newman Cigar Company. The size chosen for this review is the Hobart (Robusto). The composition of this cigar consists of a Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper and Honduran tobacco blend. This is a mild to medium bodied smoke that prices around $6.00.

Construction/Appearance:

This Nat Sherman Metropolitan Host is a rich dark brown in color somewhere in between the milk and dark chocolate shades. There is one big vein visible and seams are tight.

Pre-Light:

Aromas of wood and spice transmit from this wrapper nicely through the old smeller here. The type of cut we used is the straight cut. The cold draw produces notes of sugared raisin and spice.

After Toast:

First Third – Sugar, wood and spice kick this smoke off finished with a white pepper note. The woody notes turn smoky and a cocoa note comes out toward the end of the third. The finish turns into peppered leather. The body is mild, burn is sharp and ash holds through the third.

Second Third – The sugar and smoked wood notes continue here with a charred wood finish. The body moves to mild – medium, burn turns wavy and ash fell at the halfway point.

Final Third – Smoked wood, sweet cocoa and spice carry into this third. The body remains mild – medium and burn remains wavy.

Suggested Pairing:

Wine – La Crema Rosé

Scotch – Glenmorangie

Overall Experience:

This Nat Sherman Metropolitan Host is unique with the sugary note leading off the experience. The wood, cocoa and pepper give a nice consistency to the smoke. A good mild to medium bodied experience for those not wanting something too strong, but not sacrifice flavor in the process.
