La Flor Dominicana Air Bender
This is a cigar review of a La Flor Dominicana Air Bender by La Flor Dominicana Cigars. The size chosen for this review is the Matatan (Robusto). The composition of this smoke is as follows. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Habano and binder and fillers are from the Dominican Republic. This is a full bodied smoke that retails around $7.50.
This La Flor Dominicana Air Bender is a rich ground coffee in color with orange hues. There are some tiny veins throughout the smoke and the seams are slightly visible but tight.
This cigar radiates notes of nuts, cedar and spice on the nose. The cut we used for this was the XO straight cut by Xikar. The cold draw produces plush notes of raisin and cedar.
First Third – Spice, salty nuts and coffee notes start this cigar with a light peppery finish. The body is medium plus. The burn is slightly wavy and ash holds through the third.
Second Third – The spiciness mixed with nuts and coffee continues into this third with an earthy notes on the finish. The body remains medium plus. The burn remains wavy and ash falls at the halfway point.
Final Third – The Spice, nuts and earth continue into this third. A light leather hits the finish nicely. This cigar turns more full here and burn remains wavy.
Wine – La Vieille Ferme Récolte
Scotch – Macallan 15
I don’t think I have ever had a La Flor Dominicana cigar that has disappointed and the La Flor Dominicana Air Bender did not disappoint. Plenty of complexity with subtle transitions by the third keep this cigar interesting and add to the overall experience. This is a cigar for someone who has been smoking for some time.
Cigar Aficionado – 87pts.
