H Upmann Grupo de Maestros Connecticut
This is a cigar review of a H Upmann Grupo de Maestros Connecticut. The size chosen for this review is the toro. This cigar consists of an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco blend. This is a mild – medium cigar that prices around $8.50.
This cigar is a nice walnut color with orange hues. There are some tiny veins with visible yet tight seams. The cap is very dark giving it a distinct appearance.
The aroma of this H Upmann Grupo de Maestros Connecticut is straight cedar. We cut this with a straight cut and the cold draw produces a tangy cedar and raisin.
First third – Nuts, cedar and a light white pepper hits the palate right out of the gate. Extremely mild bodied cigar with light flavor. The burn is sharp and ash holds through the third.
Second Third – The nuts and tangy cedar continue into this third with the pepper sitting on the back of the palate on the finish. The body is still mild, burn remains sharp and ash falls at the beginning of this third.
Final Third – The nuts and cedar carry with the white pepper picking up a bit of strength, but it’s still not quite a medium bodied smoke.
Wine – Shadow Bay Sauvignon Blanc
Scotch – Glenlivet 12
This cigar has a simple flavor profile that is pretty typical of Connecticut wrapper. The white pepper gave it the little bit of bite. I would say this is a good cigar, but not great due to the lack of complexity. Would I smoke this again? Yes, but I would not go out and pick this up as my first choice.
