Diesel Whiskey Row PX Sherry Cask
This is a cigar review of a Diesel Whiskey Row PX Sherry Cask. The size chosen for this review is the toro. This cigar is composed of a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper followed by a Brazilian Arapiraca binder and Nicaraguan fillers. This is a medium plus bodied smoke that retails around $8.99.
This cigar was produced as a follow up to the original Whiskey Row cigar that partnered with the Rabbit Hole Distillery released in 2018. This time the binder of this is aged in barrels that originally contained Pedro Ximenez Sherry at the distillery. This is the same barrel that the distillery uses to make their PX Sherry Cask Bourbon.
This cigar has been released as of June 2019 and comes in the following sizes.
- Robusto – (5 x 52)
- Toro – (6 x 50)
- Gigante – (6 x 58)
“For our second collaboration with Diesel, we selected our rich and aromatic Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for AJ to use in the tobacco aging process because we knew they would lend a stunning complexity to the blend,” said Kaveh Zamanian, founder of Rabbit Hole, in a press release. “‘Sherry Cask’ speaks to the power of our partnership with Diesel and our collective focus on combining heritage technique and refined innovation to heighten the experience of fine cigars and spirits.”
Please note this is not a flavored cigar so for those of you who enjoy infused smokes this one would not be for you!
This Diesel Whiskey Row PX Sherry Cask is dark chocolate brown in color and silky to the touch. There are a few bigger veins that are hard to see due to the darkness of the wrapper and the cigar has tight seams. This cigar is finished with a double cap. There are two bands on this smoke one being the standard whiskey row with the signature rabbit from Rabbit Hole, but instead of being done in orange it is now in a nice youthful purple wine color. The second band is an inch and half foot band that has the Rabbit Hole logo along with the PX Sherry Cask.
Aromas of Nuts and Sweet Mesquite really radiate from this wrapper and make your mouth water. We used a straight cut on this smoke. The cold draw produces notes of sweet nuts.
First Third – Nuts and wood with a light subtle sweetness behind it really whirl around the palate on this opening few draws. Some cherry like notes come into the mix a few minutes in with some light smoke. Almost like one of the trendy Smoked concoctions they make at high end bars nowadays. The body is medium plus, burn sharp and ash holds through the third.
Second Third – Smoked Oak,, bittersweet chocolate and cherry continue into this third. The smoked oak turns to a charred oak like note on the finish here. The ash falls just before the halfway point. The body remains medium plus and burn remains sharp.
Final Third – Orchard fruits along with that charred oak really take this cigar home. A subtle sweetness of that bitter chocolate lingers on the finish after each puff. The body remains medium plus and burn remains sharp.
Bourbon – Rabbit Hole PX Sherry Cask
I will say we really loved the original Whiskey Row smoke from Diesel and had extremely high hopes for this Diesel Whiskey Row PX Sherry Cask as the PX Sherry Cask is the best release from Rabbit Hole in our opinion. We are pleased to let you know that this cigar did not disappoint! The notes of nuts, wood, cherry and orchard fruits and chocolate all tantalize the palate over and over again through the entire smoke. The only thing is I wish it could Diesel Whiskey Row PX Sherry Cask have lasted longer as the hour and half left me wanting more! Pick one of these up when you spot them!
