Construction/Appearance:

The band is black with neon green, silver and black font.

The cigar is medium to dark brown with some marbleizing. There are minimal veins but seams are visible.  The cigar is double capped.

Pre-Light:

Aroma: Cedar and a subtle herbal note of a dill.

Type of Cut: V-cut

Cold Draw: The cold draw was nice with good resistance. The initial notes were cedar with a hint of raisin.

First Third – Initial notes of toasted nuts, chocolate and red pepper graced the palate. After a few minutes, a subtle spice begins to come forth into the mix. As the nutty notes flare off, the baking spice kicks up along with chocolate. The flavor is very defined in this so far. Not much change or muddled notes. Slight wave to the burn. Ash is a light gray holding strong.

Second Third – The spice went away at the transition and left the chocolate flavor as the lone soldier at the beginning of the second third. The cigar really mellows at this point.  Roughly half way through this third, a red pepper hits the tip of the tongue as a natural sweet tobacco flavor takes the stage pushing the chocolate to the finish. Burn caught up and is sharp. Ash fell off around just under 2 inches.

Final Third – The beginning of this third remains with the flavor of natural tobacco along with a slight baking soda, which I thought was interesting. Few minutes in, a slight citrus component enters the mix. That little twang on the lips was refreshing. That turned into a slight floral almost perfumed with cedar wood notes.  Pleasant way to finish up. Burn remained sharp.

Suggested Pairing:

Scotch – Glenlivet 12

Wine – Cottesbrook Sauvignon Blanc

Overall Experience:

Overall, the Toraño Vault P-044 was a good semi complex smoke from Torano Cigars. The flavors really transitioned, but they were defined so even a person new to cigars would be able to pick up on them. I picked up these sticks for some old fraternity brothers that were coming to visit, but they bailed… oh well more for me!
