The Tatuaje Skinny Monster Face wrapper is a nice chocolate brown with a rough toothy feel to it. There are some obvious veins that look like stitches, could be by design since this one is in reference to the famous character Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Invisible seams and finished with a triple cap.
Aroma – Chocolate and Cedar
Type of Cut – Straight
Cold Draw – Damp Cedar and earth, almost wet Forrest floor like.
First third – Notes of chocolate kick this cigar off. A salted caramel like note comes forth then pepper kicks on the back of the palate here. Really nice balance with the chocolate, definitely like having dessert. Few minutes in, what would a cigar dedicated to Leatherface be without a really full bodied, strong leather note that just pounds the palate like Drago on Apollo Creed? Burn was pristine, and ash fell at about an inch.
Second Third – The leather continues, but that salty note continues as well. The only way to describe this is a hot summer day on a baseball field and you bite the leather of the glove strings to tighten it up mixed with the salt on your lips after grinding it out on the diamond. A beautiful note for me reminiscent of my youth. The chocolate note is also present but it’s minimal in this third.
Final Third – The leather continues, but the pepper comes back here in the final third to continue this true full-bodied experience. Towards the end a nice wood and earthy like note shows itself intertwined with the leather. The burn remained pristine.
Bourbon – Knob Creek
The Tatuaje Skinny Monster Face is another gem of a smoke from Tatuaje. The complexity of these limited-edition sticks is incredible for those looking for a real treat for their palate. Pick this up if you can find it. JR cigars sells them by the box!
