Construction/Appearance:
This Rocky Patel Hamlet Tabaquero is a nice matte chocolate brown in color with some visible, lifted seams and some large veins.
Pre-Light:
Aroma – Chocolate and Spice
Type of Cut – Straight
Cold Draw – Dark Chocolate
After Toast:
First Third – Chocolate and coffee notes start this smoke off with some spice coming in on the finish. Some tangy cedar notes kick in and out as well. The burn is sharp and ash holds through the third.
Second Third – Chocolate, spice and coffee continue here, but a nice hickory like note settles on the palate during the finish. Makes this almost like a French roast coffee type flavor on the palate mixing the coffee and hickory. The burn turns wavy and ash fell at the start of this third.
Final Third – Chocolate, spice and coffee still remain but the hickory dies off and a cherry like note comes in on the finish. Really beautiful transition. The burn remains wavy.
Suggested Pairing:
Wine – Col Solare Cabernet Sauvignon
Bourbon – Bulleit Bourbon
Overall Experience:
This Rocky Patel Hamlet Tabaquero is consistent with a good flavor profile. The chocolate, spice coffee and hickory were all great notes but, I especially liked the final third when the hickory notes fell off and the cherry note came in as a nice parting gift.
