Band is black and silver with a gold badge in the middle and black font.
Second band has a gold border, black background and gold font.
Cigar is a dark rich brown bordering black in color. Super rich and solid with minimal veins visible. I noticed 4 caps, which I found extremely unique.
Aroma: Aromas of cedar and floral scents with a raisin on the foot.
Type of Cut: V-cut
Cold Draw: The cold draw had sweet cedar, barnyard and hay notes on the palate.
First Third – Flavor begin with oak, leather and spice. Definitely a man’s man cigar. A muted earth tone comes in with some black pepper on the retro hale. Few minutes later I get a slight prune flavor, which I don’t think I have ever seen in a cigar before. Really caught me off guard. Burn is a little wavy, but doesn’t need a touch up. Ash is light gray and came off at the 1.25-inch mark.
Second Third – The taste of leather intensifies at this transition. Some toasted hazelnut flavors come in along with white pepper. Really smooth, not rough on the palate in the least. After a while, black pepper reappears on the retro hale and finish. Burn was perfect.
Final Third – This transitions into a nutty leathery earthy flavor with a mint on the finish. At the very end, it gives you a slight cinnamon and coffee that basically tells you thank you please come again. Great finish.
Wine – Château des Déduits Fleurie
Scotch – Macallan 15
I tell you I did not have high hopes for this Pinar Del Rio from PDR Cigars after the cold draw with hay flavor, which is not one of my favorite notes in a cigar, but I was dead wrong. Do not judge this cigar by the cold draw. The complexity and flavors spanned the entire spectrum of all that is good in the world. Put it this way if I could bathe in those flavors without my wife yelling at me I would. Highly recommend giving this one a try and for the price point you can’t go wrong.
