Construction/Appearance:
This cigar is double banded. The primary band is gold and brown with a red shield. The second band is brown with gold trim and font that says Liga Cubana No. 5.
The cigar is a rich reddish brown in color with a few veins and seams visible. It’s also triple capped.
Pre-Light:
Aroma – Barnyard and slight Metallic
Type of Cut – V-Cut
Cold Draw – Cedar notes mixed with natural tobacco.
After Toast:
First third – Out of the gate some real earthy flavors mixed with roasted nuts. The nuts quickly fade and transition into a coffee note. Then some spice kicks in at the 10-15-minute mark. Slight pepper in the back of the throat. Burn is slight wavy. Ash fell around an inch and a half.
Second Third – The coffee and spice carry over into this third, but I keep getting small short single puffs of some tropical citrus fruits in here. Makes each draw like a surprise. Pretty cool component. Burn still wavy.
Final Third – The coffee notes carry into this third. Spice goes away and earthy notes pick back up to finish this off. Burn remained wavy.
Suggested Pairing:
Bourbon – Angels Envy
Wine – Decoy Pinot Noir
Overall Experience:
Overall, the Pinar Del Rio Habano Sun Grown by Pinar Del Rio Cigars is a simple cigar with consistent distinct flavors throughout. Really rich and pleasant on the palate with minimal transitions. Good cigar for beginners to understand how to taste a quality smoke.
