A nice rich marbleized chocolate brown color with minimal veins and invisible seams.

After Toast:

First Third – Light floral notes hit the palate followed by nuts and spice. A mild chocolate note mixes in with the spice after the cigar settles in. Towards the end of the third, a cherry flavor is sensed on the palate. The burn is wavy and ash held through the third.

Second Third – Characteristics of nuts, molasses and anise are identified at the beginning of this third. It reminds me of those colorful spiced gum drops as a kid. A real cool flavor mix. About mid-way through, the flavor profile becomes straight coffee and spice. The burn remains wavy and ash fell at the 3-inch mark.

Final Third – The floral notes come back with the spice picking up on the palate. That gum drop flavor sits on your palate for the finish which is truly unique. The burn remains wavy.

Suggested Pairing:

Wine – Chandon Sweet Star

Bourbon – Makers Mark

Overall Experience:

This Partagas Maduro No. 1 had a variety of flavors throughout the smoke. I loved the spice note that gave it a distinctive characteristic compared to a lot of other cigars with similar profiles. The gum drop was an unexpectedly awesome flavor. Although the price point is high, if you can find one – give it a try! It’s worth it.
