Cigar Review: Oliva Serie O

Basic Information:

Name – Oliva Serie O

Producer – Oliva Cigars

Size – Robusto

Wrapper – Habano

Tobacco Blend – Nicaragua

Pricing – $5.50

Body – Medium

Construction/Appearance:

Standard Oliva band of beige gold and red. The cigar is reddish brown with a few visible veins. The cigar has tight seams and finished with a double cap.

Pre-Light:

Aroma – Barnyard

Type of Cut – Straight

Cold Draw – Sweet Cedar

After Toast:

First Third – Starts off with a light cedar mixed with cream and a light leather component. Some pepper is sensed on the back of the palate on the finish. The tangy cedar with leather then takes the stage and becomes the primary flavors of the first third. Ash is a dark gray and the fell at the inch mark.

Second Third – The leather really takes off here with the tangy cedar moving to the background. The body becomes a solid medium here. Not a ton of complexity in this third, but incredibly smooth.

Final Third – Nutty notes mix in with the spicy leather at this point. Cedar moves to the wayside and leather lingers in the palate long after the smoke clears.

Suggested Pairing:

Wine – Olema Rose or Angeline Pinot Noir

Bourbon – Bulleit

Overall Experience:

This Oliva Serie O by Oliva Cigar is a nice stick and great for the price. A solid smoking experience with a fairly complex robust flavor profile that keeps things right where you need them after a long day at work. A complete medium bodied experience and the habano wrapper gives the leather note just the right amount of spiciness to set the tone for a good night.
