Wrapper – Ecuadorian Sumatra

Tobacco Blend –  Nicaragua, Dominican

Pricing – $6.55 – $7.30

There is a double band. The first being teal with gold trim and font. The second gold and tan with teal stripes and gold font with AJ Fernandez name.

The cigar is light brown almost a coffee in color. There are minimal veins and slightly visible seams.

Aroma: I got heavy cedar aromas and barnyard scents coming off of this cigar. Stephanie’s input consisted of “it smells like the county fair barn stables and manure.” I know makes you want to put this cigar right in your mouth after that…I give her an A for effort F for salesmanship.

Type of Cut: V-cut

Cold Draw:  The cold draw produced a good resistance and consisted primarily of the cedar and hay I saw in the aroma.

After Toast:

First Third:

Upon toasting the cigar, strong nutty notes mixed with vanilla come forth on the palate. Black pepper shows up on the retro hale. A little while into the smoke, I caught a slight oak component as well.  Burn is perfect. Smoke output is plentiful. Ash is light gray.

Second Third:

Oak, nuts and wood continue into this third. Pepper has since faded. Few minutes in a slight spice comes in to play.  After spice, a creamy sweet cocoa.  A lot milder than the first third.  Burn is pristine. Ash fell off about 2 inches in.

Final Third:

This cigar finished with an exceptional earthy natural tobacco flavor profile. The burn remained pristine the entire smoke.

Suggested Pairing:

Scotch – Macallan 12.

Wine – Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Overall Experience:

I thoroughly enjoyed this  H Upmann by AJ Fernandez. I did not find it to be complex, but had just the right amount of transitions to keep it interesting. Overall for the price point of an AJ Fernandez crafted smoke it’s a deal.
