Cigar Review: Gurkha Master Select

Basic Information: Gurkha Master Select

Manufacturer – Gurkha Cigars

Size – Toro

Wrapper – Habano

Tobacco Blend – Dominican, Honduras, Nicaragua

Pricing – $4.10

Body – Medium +

This Gurkha Master Select is a box pressed stick with a light brown color sand paper like feeling to the wrapper. There are a few veins and invisible seams.

Aroma – Sweet Nuts

Type of Cut – Straight

Cold Draw – Sweet Nuts and Damp Cedar

After Toast:

First Third – Salted nuts and coffee notes lead this off with that saltiness really lingering on the palate through the finish. A subtle spice kicks in here as well. This gets a nice blast of creamy chocolate a few minutes in followed by a smoked woody note. The burn is wavy and ash holds through the third.

Second Third – Creamy chocolate and salted nuts are the main notes here followed by a nice baking spice finish. The burn is sharp and ash fell at the halfway point.

Final Third – Salted nuts, chocolate, cedar  and spice continue here with a leather like component mixing with the spice on the finish. The burn remains sharp

Suggested Pairing:

Wine – Col Solare

Scotch – Johnnie Walker Double Black

Overall Experience:

This Gurkha Master Select is a nice consistent smoke with just enough complexity to make the experience enjoyable. One of the better Gurkhas I have had in a while and would recommend for the 4 dollar price point as a buy.
