After Toast:

First Third – Espresso notes start this off along with a kind of Almond Joy like note of chocolate, almond and coconut. Pepper builds on the back of the throat on the finish. Once it settles in the espresso and almond notes take the stage. Really interesting start to this smoke. The burn is slightly wavy.

Second Third – A nice cocoa like note mixed with the espresso begin this third. Some leathery notes with pepper on the finish hang heavy on the palate. The burn sharpened up here. Ash fell at the 2.5 inch mark.

Final Third – A real nice sweet oak note comes into play here with the espresso notes moving to the finish. There is a slight fruity like note in here as well which is a nice change of pace. That note transforms into almost a black plum. Really nice finish to this stick. The burn remains sharp.

Suggested Pairing:

Scotch – Johnnie Walker Double Black

Wine – Decoy Cabernet

Overall Experience:

The Diamond Crown Maximus has lot of things going on in terms of complexity. Tons of rich flavors and full on the palate made this experience a great one. I’ve had a few Diamond Crown sticks and this one may be my new favorite from their line.
