Cigar Review: Camacho Liberty Series 2005 Throwback

Basic Information: Camacho Liberty Series 2005 Throwback

Background Info – Every year Camacho releases a new Liberty Series around the 4th of July holiday. Each year is a new blend so cigar lovers anxiously await this release. This year for the 2018 release they did something different however. They re-released the 2005 blend and called it the 2005 Throwback.

Tobacco Blend – Honduras

Pricing – $22.00

Construction/Appearance:

The Camacho Liberty Series 2005 Throwback has a beautiful presentation in a bright red cedar coffin with a black seal with silver stars. Once opened the cigar is wrapped in tissue paper. The cigar itself is a nice mix of milk and dark chocolate colors with a red white a blue band prominently displaying the 2005 Throwback.

Pre-Light:

Aroma – Perfumed Cedar

Type of Cut – Straight

Cold Draw – Cedar and Wood

After Toast:

First Third –  The first third starts off with a creamy cocoa note followed by pepper and wood on the finish. Soon after this third gets going a real nice leather comes out on the finish and is long lingering. Towards the middle of the third the cocoa goes away and the tangy cedar and spice notes come forth. Burn is sharp and ash held through the third.

Second Third – Creamy cocoa again starts this third on the transition followed by that wood and tangy cedar note. A nice long leather finish mixed with a subtle anise like note. The burn turns wavy and ash fell at the beginning of the third.

Final Third – This third gets real woody with oak and cedar. The leather becomes subtle and a really pronounced anise note like a good and plenty candy comes out. Really a full bodied cigar. The burn stayed slightly wavy.

Suggested Pairing:

Whiskey – Jack Daniels Single Barrel

Wine – Domaine Carneros Estate Pinot Noir

Overall Experience:

Overall a ton of nice flavors in this Camacho Liberty Series 2005 Throwback. The wood and cedar are the main notes mixed in with the cocoa, spice, pepper and an anise finish make the stick a nice complex smoking experience. I love this release every year and already can’t wait until they release the 2019!
