Construction/Appearance:
The band is gold, red, yellow and orange. Metallic highlights the X. The cigar itself is draped in cedar with a red ribbon.
The cigar is beautiful milk chocolate in color with some plume (I have been aging this for 5 years in my humidor). No veins visible or seams. This cigar is triple capped.
Pre-Light:
Aroma – Cedar, Raisin and Spice
Type of Cut – Straight
Cold Draw – Cedar, Raisin and Spice
After Toast:
First third – Rich natural tobacco and wood flavors begin this smoke. Nice rich chocolate comes in shortly after the initial light flavors. A subtle pepper adds to the flavor profile. There is also an acidity on the lips which is nice. Reminds me of a fine wine. Burn is wavy. Ash medium gray and flaky and fell off around the 2-inch mark.
Second Third – Real rich cocoa, wood, spice and acidity take the stage here. Some herbaceous notes also come out such as clove. Burn remained wavy.
Final Third – Cocoa remains the predominant flavor but spice and pepper kick back up to end this smoke. Still a slight acidity with nuts on the finish. Burn finished pristine.
Suggested Pairing:
Wine – Duckhorn The Discussion
Irish Whiskey – Middleton Rare
Overall Experience:
There is a reason why the Fuente Fuente OpusX is one of the best in the world. The cigar is pretty complex and rich in flavors. A total full-bodied experience. If you can stomach the price of the cigar, this is a perfect one for a special occasion. I had this cigar the night of my wedding to Stephanie and this review was done as I smoked another one on our 1-year anniversary at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach.
