Arturo Fuente Hemingway Between the Lines

Arturo Fuente Hemingway Between the Lines

This is a cigar review of the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Between the Lines produced by Arturo Fuente Cigars. The size chosen for this review is the perfecto, which resembles the size of the short story. This cigar is composed of a barber pole designed wrapper that consists of USA Connecticut Broadleaf and USA Connecticut Shade. The internal tobacco blend is straight out of the Dominican Republic. This is a medium bodied smoke that retails around $14.25.

The band is the standard red gold and black Arturo Fuente band. Now onto the cigar which has a wrapper that is like a barber pole style with the Maduro alternating with the Shade wrapper. Virtually no veins and tight seams and the cigar is finished with a double cap.

Aromas of natural tobacco and sweet spice are on the front of the nose followed by a bit of barnyard on the foot. We chose the straight cut on this cigar. The cold draw produces a deep cedar wood note with a nice nutty finish.

After Toast:

First Third – The cedar and nutty notes kick this off along with a spiced bread component. A slight pepper on the finish sits on the back of the palate. Few minutes in the spice note diminishes and the flavor becomes a nice vanilla spice. The cedar notes come back with a little leather towards the end of this third. Ash is a light gray. Burn starts off sharp.

Second Third – The leather, cedar and spice are still the predominant notes in this third however a light anise and pepper come into the fold. The finish sits on your tongue like a fine oak. Toward the middle of this third the leather comes on strong and rich. This one really packed a punch in this spot. The burn remains sharp.

Final Third – Leather, cedar and anise finish this cigar up. The ash held on for the entire cigar. A well-constructed stick.

Suggested Pairing:

Scotch – Johnny Walker Blue

Wine – Ponzi Pinot Noir

Overall Experience:

The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Between the Lines is a great product by Arturo Fuente to their Hemingway line. A pricey stick, but a beautiful work of art and experience. I’d recommend this for the aficionados out there to try at least once given the opportunity. This cigar was a birthday gift from my sister in-law and her family, which made it that much better. Thanks Meg, Jack and Pete!
