Cigar Review: Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Reserva

Basic Information:

Name – Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Reserva

Size – No. 4

Wrapper – African Cameroon

Tobacco Blend – Dominican

Pricing – $7.50

Body – Medium

Construction/Appearance:

The band is black and metallic gold with red trim. The cigar is a matte brown and semi toothy to the touch. Few veins are visible. Seams are right.

Pre-Light:

Aroma – Barnyard and hay

Type of Cut– Straight

Cold Draw – Cedar

After Toast:

First third – A nice clove, cream and leather like flavors begin this third. The finish lingers a while with some pepper hitting the back of your throat. Pristine burn. Nice dense white ash.

Second Third – Some spice mixes with a light yet defined leather component here. The oils really give a worn leather like taste on the palate. Ash fell at the mid point of the cigar.

Final Third – The leather really takes the cake here. All else falls by the wayside at this point.

Suggested Pairing:

Duckhorn Three Palms Merlot

Overall Experience:

Overall the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Reserva has a great, unique and consistent flavor. The clove, cream and leather combine for an amazing experience. Almost like an Irish crime. While not overly complex, unless the clove is pointed out, most people probably wouldn’t be able to place it. Definitely grab one of these if you see them.
