Cigar Review: Archetype Axis Mundi

Basic Information:

Name – Archetype Axis Mundi

Manufacturer – Ventura Cigars

Size – Toro

Wrapper – Maduro Habano Ecuador

Tobacco Blend – Indonesia and Nicaragua

Pricing – $12.00

Body – Full

This has a dark chocolate colored wrapped with some small, thin veins showing and tight seams. It appears to have a double cap finish as well.

Aroma – Chocolate and Barnyard

Type of Cut – Straight

Cold Draw – Chocolate, Raisin and Nuts

After Toast:

First Third – Some pleasant baking spices mixed with chocolate kick things off followed by a peppery flavor building on the finish. A strong espresso note now becomes the dominant flavor followed by the baking spices. Settled in nicely. The burn is wavy and ash held on for the first 2 inches.

Second Third – Along with the espresso comes a dark fruit flavor that mixes in beautifully. Reminds me of a good Napa Cab! The spice moves to the finish. Great cigar so far. The burn self correcting to sharp.

Final Third – The espresso notes kick up stronger here with the baking spices lingering. The fruit notes diminish completely. Some oak like flavors are noted on the palate as well. A full body experience with nice strength. The burn remains sharp.

Suggested Pairing:

Bourbon – Maker’s Mark

Wine – Jean Bouchard Chablis or Conundrum Red Blend

Overall Experience:

This Archetype Axis Mundi is a phenomenal stick with the dark fruit notes adding complexity to the experience. This is full of flavor and bodied smoke which means this is a must try for cigar aficionados out there. I think Ventura Cigar has a hit with this one.
