The cigar is light to mid brown color with a sand paper like feel to the wrapper. There are a few small veins and invisible seams. This cigar is finished with a pigtail cap.
Pre-Light:
Aroma – Sweetness, Barnyard and Smoked Wood on the foot
Type of Cut – Straight
Cold Draw – Sweet Cedar and Hay
After Toast:
First Third – Real earthy notes start this off and once it settles in picks up a lightly creamed coffee like note. A light white pepper also mixes in closer to the finish of the draw. Towards the end of the third a nice leather note becomes rich and dominant. Burn was pristine and ash held strong.
Second Third – Leather notes carry into this along with a slight cocoa mixed with coffee from earlier. The leather is still the dominant note. In the middle of this third, the cocoa notes mixes with roasted nuts to give the palate a nice flavor. Burn remained pristine and the ash fell at the 2.5-inch mark.
Final Third – Cocoa and espresso begin this third but the leather is the closer on the finish and lingers rich and oily on the palate.
Suggested Pairing:
Scotch – Balvenie 12 Yr Double Wood
Wine – Del Dotto Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Overall Experience:
The Aging Room Solera Sun Grown was a phenomenal medium plus to full bodied smoking experience with rich flavors and many twists and turns throughout. Nice transitions of masculine notes on your palate. Great for a good scotch or bourbon pairing or Cali Cab! I love Sun Grown tobacco as it tends to be stronger in the strength department. Definitely pick this one up given the opportunity.
