Cigar Review: 601 Steel

Basic Information: 601 Steel

Manufacturer – Espinosa Cigars

Size – Robusto

Wrapper – Habano Oscuro

Tobacco Blend – Nicaragua

Pricing – $5.25

Body – Full

This is a bright rich reddish brown in color with a few visible veins and tight seams.

Aroma – Sweet Chocolate, Nuts and Cedar

Type of Cut – Straight

Cold Draw – Sweet Raisin

After Toast:

First Third – Cedar zings the palate followed by nuts and cocoa in the beginning of this smoke. A nice light pepper pings the back of your throat as well. The burn is wavy and ash holds through the third.

Second Third – Nuts cedar and cocoa still remain the dominant notes here with the pepper still tickling the back of the throat. Flavors are really pronounced and easy to distinguish in this fuller bodied third. The burn is wavy and ash falls at the halfway point.

Final Third – This third is a lot of the same great pronounced notes we have seen the entire smoke. Cedar, nuts, cocoa and some coffee replaces the pepper. Body turns to a strong medium here to finish the smoke off. The burn remains wavy.

Suggested Pairing:

Wine – Col Solare Cabernet

Bourbon – Basil Hayden

Overall Experience:

This 601 Steel was a very good consistent smoke with a pronounced flavor profile that really keeps you wanting more. The complexity level in terms of transitions in each third is fairly simple, but the notes are so good and tasteful that it makes up for it. I really enjoyed this 601 Steel and for a $5.25 stick is a great deal.
