Cigar Review: 601 Brown Label

Basic Information: 601 Brown Label

Manufacturer – Espinosa Cigars

Size – Robosto

Wrapper – Sumatra

Tobacco Blend – Nicaragua

Pricing – $5.00

Body – Medium +

The wrapper has a nice toothy texture and is medium brown with dark brown marbling throughout the stick. There are a few visible veins, invisible seams and is finished with a double cap.

Aroma – Cedar and Barnyard

Type of Cut – Straight

Cold Draw – Cedar

After Toast:

First third – Notes of coffee, red pepper and spice kick this off. The coffee sits heavy on the palate with the pepper zinging the back of the throat. The burn is slightly wavy and the ash is chalky white and solid.

Second Third – Notes of cream and nuts mix into the fold here with the dark rich coffee flavor moving to the finish. A real nice medium (+) bodied experience so far. The burn is slightly wavy and the ash fell at the 2.5-inch mark.

Final Third – Nuts and coffee carry over into this third but the peppery notes come back into the mix to spice this thing back up for the finish. Towards the very end, a light floral note mixes in to finish with a slight wavy burn right down to the nub.

Suggested Pairing:

Bourbon – Woodford Reserve

Wine – Berberana Gran Tradicion Cava BrutLuc Pirlet Corbieres or Pardon & Fils Beaujolais

Overall Experience:

A nice experience with 5 distinct flavors showing themselves in the profile to give the smoke some complexity. There are a few different cigars in this line and this one is worth trying if those flavors are in your preferred range. If not, our favorite is the Red Label.
