Balmoral Anejo XO Connecticut

This is a cigar review of a Balmoral Anejo XO Connecticut by Balmoral Cigars. The size chosen is the rothschild masivo. This cigar is composed with a shade grown Connecticut wrapper and blended with tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Brazil and Pennsylvania. This is a mild – medium bodied smoke and retails for $9.70.

Construction/Appearance:

This cigar is very light tan in color with veins creating a puzzle like look to the wrapper. There are a few visible seams here, but they are tight. 

Pre-Light: 

Aromas of cedar, cream and hay all radiate from the wrapper through the nose. We cut this cigar with a Xikar XO straight cutter. The cold draw produces notes of cedar and raisin.

After Toast:

First Third – Cedar, spice, vanilla and a creamy caramel like finish with a white pepper kick start this off. Lots of flavor for a medium – bodied smoke right out of the gate. The burn is sharp and ash holds through the third.

Second Third – Notes of vanilla, cinnamon and that caramel finish are dominant in this third. The body stays medium minus, burn remains sharp and ash falls at the halfway point.

Final Third – Vanilla, cinnamon and caramel keep on rolling on the palate as a beautiful combination. The body gets to medium here and burn remains sharp through the finish.

Wine – Decoy Cabernet

Scotch – Glenmorangie

Overall Experience:

This Balmoral Anejo XO Connecticut is a nice mild to medium bodied smoke that has a simple yet satisfying and pronounced flavor profile. If you are looking for the flavors in the tasting notes than this if the right cigar for you. This cigar is a perfect pick for a morning paired with a coffee or light after dinner smoke paired with a perfect scotch or wine.
